Re: Pics of the very late Tiger1

You're right. I'm in the middle of building a 1/16th Tamiya at the moment. But even at that scale from every angle it looks heavy and menacing.

Re: mr Rivet

A mate of mine got back from Sicily a few weeks back. He found it a tad unusual but became fond of it. Apart from scooters everywhere including on the pavements he and his wife visited a restaurant one night where a couple of well dressed blokes were obviously the local 'Mr Bigs'. Everyone who came ...

Re: Maybach HKL230P45 Engine

I think that's the great thing about modelling - there is always room to improve and revisit models later for updates. An ongoing process. I also like the faded and stained red lead under the hatch. Good work.

Re: Messing about again! T55 gun elevation

Aaah painting and weathering! Now I feel all warm in my comfort zone again. No need to apologise Peter - somehow I've missed out on electronics apart from rewiring plugs, putting together easy Tamiya DMD's, knowing not to balance an electric fire on the edge of the bath etc. I have a vague memory of...

Wish I had your understanding of these things. I only understood the term 'lash up'!

Re: Pictures of this months Yeovilton

I've got to stop looking at ship models - being strangely drawn to them lately. Anyone seen the 1/35 Italeri Schnellboot - fantastic kit that is capable of being RC'd. If I had a lake close by I'd be very tempted.

Re: Maybach HKL230P45 Engine

All this talk of alloys reminds me of when an 1930's Auto Union Grand Prix car was extricated from the Eastern Bloc after much skullduggery and spy-like meetings. It was sent to a top restorers in the UK - Crosswaite and Gardner if that rings any bells with you. Anyway as the car was so advanced for...

Re: Maybach HKL230P45 Engine

Are those rocker covers painted silver or are they aluminium? Looks like they have white powdery deposits that I find on the aluminium cam cover of my old Lancia if it's been standing.

Tigertiki - I'd be interested to know what you are planning to do with the tracks.

Re: Experiments with speaker installation

Have to agree. I've no idea what I'm looking at but this is one of the neatest installations I've seen especially at 1/16th scale. Looks like the inside of a 1/6th.

Re: Maybach HKL230P45 Engine

Well I'm a layman as far as the finer details of a Tiger engine go but this is looking really good. You work pretty fast. I like the use of the coiled copper wire to give the right effect on the flexi hoses. I have a far off dream of one day installing a scratch-built engine into my yet to be built ...

Re: steel dragons sdkfz 250 ??

We're not talking Tamiya but I rate it as a very good solid basic kit to work on. Shape wise etc it's all there. It's all nicely moulded and has opening rear door, bonnet, visors etc. If you look at the Sixth Army group site for instance you will find lots that have been built and painted. Some are ...

Re: steel dragons sdkfz 250 ??

This takes me back! I bought one last year from Steel Dragons. I had searched high a low for a European supplier to try to save on shipping costs because of the increasing disparity of the pound/dollar. I found a supplier in Germany but on asking shipping costs found they no longer stocked them. So ...
