StuG 111 Ausf F

Post by Vixen V8 » Tue Mar 24, 2015 12:54 pm

I have just completed a full makeover of the old Petrol Panzer. Over the winter I completed the installation of the water cooled Vixen V8 engine and a fully operational and fully detailed StuK 74 mm anti tank cannon. I also gave the bare metal a coat of camo. The Vixen engine still requires some more work before it will run reliably, in the mean time I am using the built in alternative electric motor drive to get around. The StuK 75 mm cannon if pneumatically (Co2) operated. The gas operates the recoil system and discharges a blast of talcum powder to simulate the gunsmoke. Talcum powder smells nicer and is safer than cordite.

Have a look at the latest videos and explore some of the older ones as well

nice work Mike.
I think you still need a bit more volume for that gunfire.

Cheers

Wow
First time I've seen the model, truly impressive. I think you should leave it as is without sound.

It is possible to link an output trigger from a Benedini sound module from the gun fire control system via opto transistor. I built a system to drive a electro controlled recoil and flash system some years back. You could use the sound module when using electric drive motor only. Simpler, there are toys or specific sound modules on the market ie model boats etc, to give you the single shot electronic sound, it could be hooked to a small amp with bass and treble to give gun shot sound to a quality speaker.

I have two blank firers on two tanks. Both shot gun blank, both very loud and very messy. Black powder eats into everything. So I normally use converters to 9mm blank which give you a pop and tiny bit of smoke.
The best blank firer I ever saw was Winson/Modelworks electrically fired theatrical maroons, but at £3.50 each shot expensive

Electronic or blank, I don't think this is that kind of model is it.

The Stug has a wow factor all of it's own.
