Southern Model Airshow 2013-New Venue

Post by Humpy » Tue Dec 04, 2012 9:04 am

This is for those that go to the SMAS.

We were all painfully aware that the event was cancelled at the last minute through no fault of the organisers as the Hop farm had double booked :x Well, the organisers have been in conference deciding whether to go back to the Hop Farm or decide on another venue. They announced earlier this morning that next years show will be held at the Headcorn Aerodrome and will be run by the same folks who organise the Combined Ops which we also attend. I have already indicated that we would like to go as I presume we're all happy with that? Any Nays let me know? Ta.

Hardly likely to have a double booking with some unpleasent noise generating bunch of DJ's. I don't suppose it bothered the hop farm as they probebly made more money from the noise than they would a model extraviganza. Nice to see they voted with their feed, plenty of venues they could hold it and if the hop farm doesn't want the business, that's their problem.

I'm normally on holiday when the show is on, but either way if I'm not Headcorn or the Hop farm, doesn't make too much difference.

Interestingly, although not a UKTC event, the War & Peace Show has announced a move from is 20 odd year regular location of the Hop Farm to Folkestone Racecourse! Methinks the Hop Farm has dropped a bit of a testicle

Interesting, After this year I guess the mud situation might have made a few people sit up and listen, but isn't that one of the risk accessment situation you take into account. I would think the mess causes this year does have a knock on effect for other events, but I would have though that the money comming is would have a smoothing effect.

From which year is this from. The website boasts the 30th year at the hop farm?

Garry,

There seems to be two websites running at the mo, the original

http://www.thewarandpeaceshow.com/

and the new one at

http://www.thewarandpeacerevival.co.uk/

I'm guessing that the Hop farm may have a take on the old name hence a change of name and website. The Revival website isnt as comprehensive as the old one, yet but...

Most interesting,

I did the google search for war and peace and got the old site. Lots of things to make you wonder why, but I would has at a guess that it was all getting out of hand and the hop farm has got other ideas which don't gel very well. A clean break and a new start. I wonder who initiated it?

From what I heard the invicta military preservation society thought the war and peace show was being taken out of their hands , and that's why they started the combined ops at headcorn, , from the looks of this ,imps have taken the war and peace show back and said up yours to the hop farm , hence the revival bit ?

isn't folkestone racecourse closing down, or at least stopping races so maybe a change in direction. that old stanford road is a bit tight for the tank transporters I think. I used to live only 1/4 of a mile up the road.

I've been having a poke around some of the forums and it seems that the new management at the hop farm were becoming obstructive. There was a press release about the move but it wasn't exactly easy to read, more spelling mistakes than an infants school.

It seems that Folkestone racecourse is closing as a racecourse and moving towards a show ground. The War and peace revival has apparently signed a 5 year contract suggesting that the facilities at the site are better than ever at the hop farm. Reading between the lines it seems that some of the argument was related to facilities, or lack of, and lack of willingness to improve them. I've been going for over 10 years and to be honest the provision of facilities has never really improved that much. In fact the only improvement was that they moved the stinking portaloo's from oposite the Mark-1 pitch to the other side of the river, along with the smell.
