tankfest 2013

Post by tiger tank sean » Tue Jan 29, 2013 6:32 pm

hi all

i need to start taking names to see what interest there is in this event, just so you are aware we need to pay the tank museum £180 for the 12m x 6m pitch. so the more people interested the less the cost per person will be. please bare in mind last year there was also a £2.50 fee per person for passes and £10 per person for camping for those that need it.

gary if you think a small charge for such a large event thats a full weekends entertainment is unreasonable, then move on to the free events section. oh and by the way if you bothered last year you would have seen that for £2.50 you would have been granted a weekend pass WOW THATS SUCH ALOT OF £££££

I think what Gary is saying is that you should not pay to exhibit your vehicles that have cost you thousands so the venue can make a profit out of your contribution I for one do not and will not pay to exhibit my tanks and I know others feel the same, each to their own. :? :?

The other way to look at TankFest in particular is that you're getting in for £2.50, rather than £28.50, so actually the Tank Museum is paying you £26 to exhibit your vehicle.

Wouldn't that be £26 minus the individuals contribution to the £180 for the pitch, unless SAG is bearing that cost then, I'll shut up, but just for the record Sean there is NO "free events section", just "Upcoming Events" on this forum, so if you don't want to pay then don't go, so the subject of monies is now over.

Forgive me for not letting it lie........ Apart from the cost of our members third party liability insurance, isn't this why we pay a membership fee to UKTC? If the pitch is paid for from central funds, and individuals pay their own pass and camping fees where appropriate, then everyone is happy.
Or is that too easy....?

Unfortunately Kevin, it wouldnt take too many Tank Fests or Military Odysseys up our way before there wouldnt be any money in the kitty. We've had this argument before and its the main argument why the Club never has a presence at the War & Peace Show, purely and simply, money. At the end of the day, you pays your money and you takes your choice as these events are never going to relent on a few quid :(

As Humpy says we have had this argument many times. I can only think of one event where they tried charging us for attending, but soon changed their mind the following year when we didn't go. War and Peace and Tank fest are big money spinners for the organisers and also the shows that the world and his dog want to go to. I am supprised that they allow quite so many people at Duxford, and I'm not complaining, but the vast majority of shows we attend do not charge, more often than not are only too pleased to see people. The model engineering show in London normally make a donation to the club for attending.

I can only think of about 3 shows this is applicable to. If we went to just the War and Peace show as the club, I'm pretty confident that would wipe out the club funds and some for the year and it would only allow a small number of people to attend. Then you have the argument of who goes. Personally I don't go to Tank Fest because it is a pain in the rear to get to, it's a long way to go and I have to bust my buns to get home on the Sunday, and thats before you count the cost of fuel, so I would personally prefer that the club didn't spend money on that because I would miss out. I am sure there are others who would feel the same.
