Last year a number of us in the South West (and beyond!) attended the Battle of Britain Show at Norton Fitzwarren, just off Junction 25 of the M5 outside of Taunton.
This was a great show, still in it's infancy at the moment, but with great potential, and includes re-enactors; stalls; classic cars, military vehicles and full scale model planes from the period with a grand finale each day where the spitfire starts up and there is firing and a scripted battle. The site is next to the West Somerset Railway line so there is also regular passing's of the railways steam trains.
There is a licensed bar on site and the social element last year was excellent with entertainment on the Saturday night including a live 40s band and a dancing display from the re-enactors.
Last year we put on a great display each day with a dedicated large arena for the tanks inclusive with obstacles and a microphone to provide our own crowd dialogue during our timetabled display hour. As well as the large models we also had tables and we provided gazebos for the smaller models - we could run the tanks throughout the day - blank firing is absolutely encouraged! Electricity was provided for charging.
There is camping on site with fresh water, toilets and refreshments available to buy throughout the day.
The show's organiser Graham Adlam is a top bloke who's looking to gain further support this year and make the show bigger and better than last year and he'd love to have more tanks this year as they proved such a popular attraction last year.
The show's dates this year are the 30 and 31 August - although camping is available before and after for those who want to make a long weekend of it.
For those who wish to run their tanks please make sure that you have adequate public liability insurance which you will be asked to bring with you.
I'm uncertain whether work commitments will allow for me to attend as yet so for further information, or to express an interest in attending please contact Graham directly at email@example.com.
