What diam are your track link pins Andy, mine are older and measure 2.97 mm, I'd guess they are 3mm nominal best russian bicycle spokes.
I have sourced bike spokes ( nipple end on outside of links ? ) for an earlier project, that I can get in imperial or metric sizes and any lengths, at a good price. Threads can be rolled/cut at the factory, any ideas as to how to finish the inside ends for fixing ? The russian method of hitting the end to a bend doesn't appeal too much.
Or do we go the Armortek route with pins,washers and circlips ?
To be honest I was thinking about the track links last night.
I reckon it would be easier to design a split link and cast from Brass, then fit with something like a 3mm caphead screw between the half shells. Something more prototypical.
It would reduce the cost of the links I think, and we could make in brass or aluminium, you could undersize the half holes so it nips the shaft.
The cap head screw could be threaded into the brass or better yet design a nut that can be manually inserted to the half shell.
Trouble is where do you draw the line, you'd be as well designing a new lower hull and add suspension detail and idler adjustment details......
It needs some careful thought before we approach somebody - 3d print perhaps?
My engineering fella is looking at drawing up replacement end caps this weekend, the link pins will be around £27 per hundred, with one end threaded for a nyloc nut, the other a flat head.
More as I get it.
If the central units are kept as the original russian ones ( we are doing exact copies in ally) the outside ones could be beefed up from the russian 8.5 mm to 10mm width ?
He is taking around 150 for 550 at the moment.
He also can do 3mm stainless pins with.8 mm circlips and washers, or threads on 3mm flat headed pin (for washer and half nut or nyloc)

Suggest getting a small batch of say 10 made and trial it first?

I'm going to use them to replace a couple, and add a couple of track links to my Chally.
I will test them before I let you know the price . . . . It's not turned out particularly cheap, nothing over engineered normally is I guess.
More after testing.
Must admit that body mods have ground to a halt whilst im messing about with the track bits. ( might be due to the purchase of a couple of new guitars as well ! )

Machined alloy countersunk on the outers and threaded on the inners, stainless 3.2mm pins and a lock nut.
So far these are working the best
They certainly look the part now, time will tell.
Next job a full set of engine grilles milled in alloy.
