I have been doing some work on the Chieftain but its the dull stuff eg :like turning up brass end tubes for the front idlers & drive shafts for the sprockets. Its a collection of parts at the moment, but soon as I figure out how they go on to the tank I'll post some more photo's.

The bit of the Chieftain I'm working on at the moment took a lot more time & work than I had imagined but I now have two rear drive axels. And they have been locked onto the rear sprockets, fitted through bearings on the outside & inside of the rear hull, & managed to fit a rear drive sprocket onto the shafts for drive chains from the motors.
Due to the layout of the chieftain I had very little room for a drive sprocket & chain to fit. Using the smallest drive sprocket I could find that would fit onto a 10mm drive shaft, I managed to get the chain to run round it without interfering with the rear hull by just 2-3mm. It was looking as if I would have to grind into the rear hull for clearance...but I just got away with it.
Anyway some more photos, doesn't look like I've done much... most of the time was on the lathe machining shafts or drilling & tapping holes for grub screws... fitting & re-fitting until they ran true.

I need slight alinement adjustment with the motor sprockets & I need to test the final speed. I have a smaller & larger sprockets for the motors to adjust drive speed.

That's it for now, a few more adjustments to the motor sprockets, cut & tighten chains, wire in speed controller & test sprocket speed. Then I start on the road wheels & tracks
Well done, looks quite a tight fitment, i guess that explains the design of the final drive casing on the chieftain, it not only reduced the gearing but also moved the output shaft axis outside the hull envelope - make sense when you think about it.
I have been at a wedding this weekend so have achieved nothing unfortunately, either on CRARRV or on Robs grills......
life & work seem to get in the way. This afternoon managed to drop into the man cave & work on the build, after a lot of measuring, measuring again I took the jump into cutting the drive chains. After some tweaking & motor alinements, gear greasing I wired up the motors for a test expecting some of major problem. "It worked " I'm not going to know if I have the gear speed right until l finish the rest of the suspension, tracks & it moves but it works & the chain final drive clears the inner rear hull by about 4mm without me having to do any clearance cutting

1st Happy New Year, 2017...year 3 on the Chieftain MK11 build. Still a long way to go, but still aiming to get a rolling hull this year. I've been working on the alignment of the idlers & rear sprockets...L/H side was ok, but the R/H side was somehow out hitting the side of the outer track guard. After a whole day measuring again & re-fitting it was re-aligned correctly. One side of Chieftain track has been roughly put together to help with the correct alignment of my next hurdle... building, mounting, of the road wheel bogies & upper track idlers.
Anyway some photos of the track & some road wheels placed roughly in position. Having the tracks in place make the tank look much bigger
